The Psychology of Motivation



I am sure you want to achieve many things in your life, as everyone else. But is your desire to achieve your goals enough to motivate you to go through everything needed until you do it?

Remember people who always said they want to become successful. Then remember the progress they did one year after they declared their desire. Yeah, they did nothing.

This happens because when they say “I want to become successful” they are really saying “I want to become successful without doing anything about it“.

So you must be sure that the difference between winners and losers isn’t the desire, but the willingness and motivation to do everything needed until you success.


What motivates people the most?


Maybe you want to be rich, or to lose weight, or to get a better job, or to find your love, or to become healthier. Your desires are great. Yeah they are good motivators to make you do the first step toward your goals.

But soon you will need other motivators to be able to go on after failures and bad results. Because there is a danger to percept your work toward your goals as boring, or useless, or dangerous.

That’s why you have to link other emotions to your activities, to percept them as interesting, useful and safe. So you will be able to follow your activities even though the initial desires lost their effects.

Getting pleasure and avoiding pain are two elements that motivate people to do what they do. So if you link your needed activities to pain and your boredom then “avoiding pain element” will push you with all its forces to avoid those activities.

So understand that your activities are not the real reason of your boredom, and reveal how they make you feel energized and hopeful. Think of the positive emotions you will experience when you will do your tasks, and your subconsciousness will link positive emotions and “getting pleasure element” to your activities.

3 Useful tips to make you more motivated


  • When your progress is visible you will feel more motivated to continue your work until you will get all the results, because you will link those happy moments to your hard work. That’s why devide your big goals in smaller ones and in daily objectives. Your great feelings when you achieve those little goals will motivate you stay in your activities until you will get all the results you want.
  • When you work hard and you get nothing, don’t let your negativity to demotivate you. Failures are needed to learn the right way how to achieve those goals, so stay hopeful and don’t let your brain to link your efforts to uselessness. Your ability to stay hopeful and your stubbornness will motivate you to go on, to try again in a different way until you will find the right path to your success.
  • Don’t let your friends destroy your confidence. Because if you doubt your resources and your abilities you will link your work to feeling incompetent, and your unconscious mind will try everything to make you avoid your activities, to avoid that pain. People always say negative comments about other’s progresses. Intelligent friends are so rare. So avoid talking about your intentions in front of everyone. And your strong confidence will motivate you to go on even in the worst situations.
